Since 2016, I have been examining different dimensions of the refugee crisis in Europe. Refugees arriving in Europe are seeking permanent resettlement. They are leaving countries and communities that are dangerous and disrupted. While there are concerted efforts to integrate refugees into European communities, through housing, language and skills training, and youth education, these are costly for host nations. Applying social network analysis I am seeking to determine how social connections (both existing and those being established formally and informally) mediate the politics and processes of belonging, building on rich anthropological scholarship of cultural citizenship.

Identifying which dimensions of the constructs of social networks influence the processes of belonging and mediate the politics of belonging, will bring critical insights into the new moment of migration being shared globally.
